loving it

eh, ok

you know when you plan your day in the morning, like i will have lunch, then go shopping, then back home and watch tv... etc

well does it happen to you sometimes that your day don't go like you planned at all, but like 5mn after you think about doing something you need to change your plan, and again and again...

well that's my day.

so i suppose if I write now that I'll meet up with someone now, then go shopping, then go to work in the Old Jameson Distillery and then.. well i don't know, maybe go to the Village or The Academy, depends what's on, then go back to work, then maybe go home... it is definitely going to change, isn't it?

news

sorry i haven't been writing for a long time

here are the latest news

DEAF was a good festival, lovely people and a majority of good acts

i didn't like Nurse with wound though, i didn't get it... at all.

Mad Ep was good

but the highlight for me was Daedalus, incredible artist mixing his own stuff with good stuff from other artists creating the perfect live remix.

Poets of Rhythm were quite good as well, jazz funk, playing for almost two hours.

i spent two hours covering the back wall with a giant screen and moving the projectors and running cables so we can have two projectors playing two different dvds simultaneously at the back of the stage. but it was worth it as the result for Stephen O Malley and Nurse With Wound looked cool.

went to Justice DJ Set on sunday night, had loads of fun with Jeni, Grainne, Emma and Snoopy, it's good to party with techies as i doesn't really happen often except after work when we all too tired to dance so we usually just sit there and get drunk easily. Justice were quite good and Busy P was excellent.

i spent monday recovering from that sunday night.

Tilly and The Wall played ALT on tuesday night, quite a pleasant gig, nice music, dancey pop: their tap dancing certainly adds to the dancey part  while the girl's choreographies underline their pop style.

last gigs

sorry for the lack of posts but i was busy in ALT:

Goldielocks on thursday was... pointless. she has a good voice but only used in on backing tracks mixing hip hop and rnb. not interesting.

The Aftermath sounds like a dull version of Snow Patrol, not into it at all.

Concerto For Constantine are absolutely deadly, great musicians, had a great time doing their lights.

Grand Pocket Orchestra were as usual quick and fun. two minutes songs with energy, fun instruments and originality.

got like a million of the energising drink R.B. after they organised a competition in ALT on saturday afternoon. (i had to be in at 9am, with only 3 hours sleep... thank god for this energising drink).

and then usual Clampdown club with good djs on saturday night

Italian Factory club was busy on sunday, their clubs are always busy, and they had the wonderful idea to get free sushis from yamamori... yuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmy.

punk and Canada

some people say that NoMeansNo are one of the best live bands

http://www.nomeanswhatever.com/

well tonight, The Hanson Brothers (with members of NoMeansNo) are playing their hardcore melodic punk in ALT.

is it going to be a memorable gig? i think so, U:mack the promoter is always booking some really good bands that give amazing live shows.

www.myspace.com/hansonbrotherscanada

they sound like Foals

Post War Years

http://www.myspace.com/thempostwaryears

so, sharing same influences and inspired by the same things or just a dull copy?

pressure?

phantom gig tonight, with the Aftermath headlining.

their sound engineer is Marc Carolan... Muse's sound engineer...

do i have to do an amazing lighting show like Muse have???

split

a band i was really into and enjoyed their live shows... it's a pity.

Dirty Pretty Things Split

The inevitable has happened: Dirty Pretty Things have split.

The Carl Barat-led band released a statement to NME.com saying that the four members - two of whom were in The Libertines - will be pursuing solo projects.

The band were due to play three Irish dates at the start of November (Dublin, Cork and Belfast), but it's unlikely that these gigs will now take place - although they have said that they will honour their forthcoming UK tour, which finishes on October 18th.

"It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of the Dirty Pretty Things," the statement said. "It's been a glorious three years which we all would gladly live out again, but it is time for us to try new things (not The Libertines). We are reluctant to give up touring but will give the last waltz everything. We have and are determined to go out as we came in, after which we all have other ventures to be getting on with and splendid future plans.

"Heartfelt thanks to all who made it what it was, much love and we'll see you on the road."

facts

-Jon Spencer is a really nice guy. knowing exactly what he wants lighting wise, collaborating with me through the whole soundcheck to create looks for the gig. having a fantastic time doing lights for his band Heavy Trash, blues punk rockabilly style, he was like a preacher on stage, a proper rock n roll gig like in the old times! offering me a t-shirt to thank me at the end, their driver/manager also came to thank me personally, i hope they'll be back in ALT soon. ( and Lou their sound engineer is French)

-speaking of coming back, my favourite french turntablists are back in ALT: Birdy Nam Nam on the 12th of december, i hope they'll bring Max their lighting tech and Seb their sound engineer so we can have a good time again!

-i was a bit worried about the Immortal Technique gig in ALT on sunday. first because i had never done lights for a hip hop act before, then because it was proper gansta rappers who turned down eminem and doctor dre and i was worried about their attitude towards women (as i am a girl and technician). turns out the gig was really enjoyable and they were nice latino-american guys respecting women and stuff, the main guy seems really cool even though we didn't talk for too long and i liked his message: respect women, revolution, solidarity etc.

cinema and 93

Jonathan Rhys Meyers (i love him) and John Travolta shooting a movie just besides where i spent the first three months of my life and where my grandparents used to live, how weird is that...

suburb of Paris, Seine Saint Denis, in a city called Montfermeil.

http://www.lesinrocks.com/cine/cinema-article/travolta-et...

finally

i understand how binary codes work for lights... i don't why it always seemed so complicated to me, i guess just because it was numbers and a bit of math so my brain just stopped functioning every time i heard "binary code"...

anyway i can know address lights with dip switches (even if they are now disappearing and being replaced by digital panel)

26/09/2008

diversity

angry indie pop rock, that was last night in ALT with Grand Pocket Orchestra and GaY Against You

punk blues rockabilly and electro dub, it's tonight in ALT with Heavy Trash and club Stasis

electro, it's clampdown club tomorrow night

hip hop from New York and Dublin, it's on sunday with Immortal Technique and The Infomatics
