MGMT Mini Tour Blog
Current mood: understimulated
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

MGMT is very grateful that no one (that we know of) got hurt at the performance at Oxegen Festival in Ireland. That was far and away the craziest crowd we have ever had the privilege to play in front of.
oh, and Glastonbury - not too shabby! The park stage show was phenomenally righteous.
3 cheers for the death of the head scarf!
happy summer times!

the Brooklyn Vibe

MGMT: as i said in a post below, their music is good, their energy is pleasant, their fans are crazy.

i had to escape work for an hour so i could see them again. the tent was packed but i had my magical golden pass :-).

when the fans started climbing metal poles (the ones that hold the tent) in wellies or flip flops, we had to stop the show as it was way to dangerous for people climbing and people under them! even the security didn't want to go up. so they stopped the show.

then some fans were still in the air and didnt want to get down, even MGMT's sound engineer became impatient and started throwing bottles at them with the audience. when everybody came down, MGMT went back with less than 10mn left to play so they of course decided to play their three hits.

this might be the Brooklyn vibe, crazy/ happy / funny people.

VAMPIRE WEEKEND: after an amazing show in Paris last weekend, i decided that i wanted to listen and dance to their rhythm again.

and here i was up near the lighting desk as usual, watching the crowd absorbing their tunes, happy faces singing along to catchy tunes. girls with homemade sign asking who is Blake ( they have a song called One-Blake's got a new face). people cheering when the band tells them it's another dancey song. i like their mix of African indie British rock.

loads of people are rejecting the buzz around them. even saying that they are colonialist nerds doing music.

because they are graduates from Columbia, and what? is there some kind of rule where you have to be stupid and not educated to be in a band?

colonialist? because they are influenced by African music? so is Manu Chao a colonialist being a rich white guy influenced by african and south american music? what about eminem with the african american gangsta rap? if you're white, graduate and have money, what kinda of music should you play? classical music only? that's bullshit

a good band, having fun, trying crazy mix of influences, and making people happy.

YEASAYER: they were playing on my stage.

i was doing lights for them and i actually had a good time. i knew a couple of songs and i knew they were a good new band.

indeed the energy, the rhythm, the songs, and the charism were present. you have to dance when you're listening to their rhythm as the vocals make it kinda hard to sing along. you just feel the need to move when you hear their songs. loads of sounds from the 80ies in their mix. keyboards, samples and the voice. a nice moment.

urging us to go and see Vampire Weekend straight after their set, they certainly are nice people as well, encouraging the success of their mates.

i didnt see any craziness except maybe with the charism of their frontman, the band surely had fun on stage, and the people watching them had a excellent time and came out of the tent happy.
