Radiohead 7th of June in Malahide Castle

Manu Chao 11th of June in Paris, Bercy

a gig per week, i like that.

confirmed gigs where i'll be working : 5 in four weeks. and i don't count the clubs, just the live bands. and then there's all the gigs not confirmed yet.

ha. you have to love music.

a new way to dj

you like turntables?

would you like to see four of them used at the same time?

by four different talented djs?

who used them more as a music instrument than as a player for vinyl records?

check out Birdy Nam Nam playing in Andrews Lane Theatre on the 28th of June.

just noise

you like crystal castles?

well i'm sure you will like times new viking.

what's up with all these bands who are bad musicians -but obviously have some kind of hype and a really fashionable audience- and become new bands to follow?

seriously? when even their sound engineer told us yesterday: "just make them sound like shit and really loud but a warm sound", we thought "what the fuck?"

and of course they don't like flashing lights and wanted me to keep it simple, and fortunately- how can i try to follow a rhythm when it's just a massive huge noise?

and also seriously what's the story of bands doing gigs with only 35 minutes set? ok they don't have much material as they are a new band, well then they should play a smaller venue and make their fans pay less! even a local band will do a longer set than that! (i.e the support Giveamanakick played for 45 mn)

so these were the negative points, now for the positive

...

no, i've got nothing.

just because a band is adored by young fans with fashionable accessories and items of clothing, a trendy haircut, because this band is considered as alternative because the NME haven't talked about them yet, THIS DOESN'T MAKE THEM GOOD!

Africa Day

it was huge (so many people! and a queue of an hour to get in!)

it was sunny ( well and sometimes windy with a grey sky but at least it didn't rain)

it was diverse (nigeria, algeria, congo, south africa and music, food, dance, cinema, poetry, reading)

it was a really good afternoon.

it's virtual, it costs nothing but the cause is real.

fashion on saturdays in Dublin

i'm doing the lights for a club happening every saturday in A.L.T.

(well except next saturday when i'm going to see Dirty Pretty Things then work the whole night in the Gate Theatre, and on the 7th when i'm going to see Radiohead in Malahide Castle)

this club is brilliant, busy every saturday thanks to great djs like Johnny Moy or Arveene.

and the audience is great, funky, fashionable, young but also less young with some of the guys working on saturdays coming down after as we are closing late (bar and music finishes at 3, close at 3.30)

here are some pictures of the crowd i found on the excellent blog fashion filosophy:

p.s James Lavelle from Unkle is djing there on saturday the 31st of may (if you're going, enjoy the new visuals and lights from Declan, while i'll be jumping around in the Academy ;-)
