" I stayed in the little southern island of Chiloe, sleeping in what must be one of the most isolated camp sites in the world. There, I was separated from the little town of Cucao by a gigantic lake and the only way to go to Cucao was to embark on a old small craft to cross that lake. I took long walks in the national park of Chiloe, ate seafood and observed the life of the Mapuche community."

quick! go to work!
6.45pm: one of my bosses calls me and asks me if i can be in a venue before 7.30pm to do lights for 4 bands.
7.15pm: i am there, checking the desk, i will be there until 10.30, until the in-house (my former teacher!) comes back
10.30pm: he comes back and asks me if i can go to a bar/nightclub now and switch on some lights
11pm: i'm there, i have to make a phone call to know how those lights work
11.15pm: lights are working, i'm going to see the promoter/organiser to ask him if he's happy, but the bass bins (low frequency speakers) downstairs are not working, i call my boss to know who is the sound guy on this gig, he tells me just to check a few things but still not working...
-i love my job and the fact that you can be calmly watching dvds on your couch and 30mn later at a gig listening to loud rock music and making the lights go crazy
-i am really crap at sound, don't give me any sound gigs, i don't have a clue on how to fix something if there's a problem!
-the quiet times are over, happy days!

busy times again
all right folks, it looks like the season is starting again!
after three quiet weeks, when i mean quiet i mean that i only worked 2 days (20 hours) and had a training for a day, people are starting calling again: the helix, the gate, the axis, a festival, a theatre company, a big lighting company told me they are gonna have gigs for me... and a band i am working with are releasing their first album and going on tour in a few months.
now please don't call me for 4 different gigs on the same day... i can't be at several places at the same time, i'd love to though. imagine how cool it would be to be designing for a band, operating a theatre play, helping with the production for a festival and rigging moving lights at the same time!
anyway my next gigs are:
-gig in a theatre (don't know what it is yet!)
-tv show
-working with the best theatre lighting designer in the world! Mr Mick Hughes, a British gentleman, an excellent teacher

another view
just watching a dvd of Noir Desir (french rock band... if you don't know them just have a listen, they're my heroes, my influence, my love for music comes from them, i just have no proper words to describe what they gave me)
and i am watching it with my techie's eyes...
how weird it is to re-discover a band you love with a different point of view... observing lights, visuals, the band playing, gestures, style, set up.... it's just a pleasure to re-discover them live.
they are the reason why i love music, why i love literature and words, why i learnt spanish and english, and languages to be able to express my feelings whoever I can meet, why I learned how to play the piano, why I tried to learn how to play guitar, harmonica, why i'd love to learn how to play drums.
thanks to them I am what I am now.

movies
i've seen recently
Ratatouille; not so funny
Fred Claus: ...
The Devil Wears Prada: i know it's not recent but didn't get a chance to see it yet, it's good
August Rush: i LOVE Jonathan Rhys-Myers... and music, so if there are both at the same time in a movie, well the movie has to be great!
PS I Love You: nice romantic comedy (and some scenes were shot in Ireland... and one in the Whelans, best pub in Dublin!)
ah the joy of internet...
next ones: Sweeney Todd, and I Am Legend (even if this film is a total remake of 28 days later with Cillian Murphy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0289043/plotsummary ... and i prefer Cillian Murphy alone in London than Will Smith alone in New York)

i need to
-fly to bristol, visit Cardiff and go to Newport to see a friend for 2 or 3 days, preferably next week as i am free and the flight ticket is maximum 70euros.
-go to London for a day to do an advanced training on a lighting desk in April i think (with 20 euros the return -same day- and free training and free lunch provided...)
-go away somewhere for 2 days and one night because i'm going to be free for sure from the 8th to the 12th of february and a flight will only cost me 2 cents... yes in total (no taxes or charges etc...) so i definitely need to enjoy this offer, i don't care if I go to Hull... I just have to fly. and pay one night in a hostel.
so as you can see january and february are really quiet in the cultural world in general... so i am constantly thinking to go abroad. i was even considering to go to new york (yes jen) and work there for a week or two... but then with the passport, and the fact i can't really work there officially etc, i've abandoned the idea for now.
by the way as i'm bored/broke/staying at home, i've applied for different jobs: researcher for IMRO (Irish Music Right Organisation), door to door fundraiser, project assistant dealing with pre production and production for a festival in March.
ok next year, i am definitely going on holidays in january...
