A fan died at a Smashing Pumpkins gig in Vancouver, Canada on Monday night (September 24), after being involved in what police described as a "mosh pit or crowd-surfing incident".

 In May, the Smashing Pumpkins played a gig at The Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. The venue was overcrowded and despite the band's repeated requests for moshing to stop, a seventeen-year-old fan named Bernadette O'Brien was crushed to death.
